If you take the following steps, you can determine what you can afford:

  • Examine your financial position, total income, monthly expenses, and the amount you have available for a down payment.
  • Examine your credit score and report.
  • Make sure all of the information is correct. And if you do not have the corrections made, get pre-approved for a home mortgage, knowing the exact amount. A lender will approve your loan, providing you with confidence and an advantage.
  • When negotiating, consider hiring a buyer’s agent to represent you as a realtor. Working on your behalf can help you find a home guide, walk you through the process, and help you negotiate with the seller.

Lastly, be flexible. Remember, there is no such thing as a perfect house. Decide what’s most important to you and your family and be reasonable and willing to compromise on some of your less important requirements.
